Evolution

I wish that the true revolutionary nature of the theory as well as the fascinating nature of the subject had been exposed to us in high school. For years, I had been enjoying Richard Dawkins and Stephen Jay Gould in a passive manner. More recently, I sat up and took notice after reading The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution. I followed this with Why Evolution Is True and have been hooked ever since. I am planning to create a nicer epub of “The Origin of Species” to express my gratitude.

Tom de Marco on Software Engineering

It takes a great man to admit that he may have been wrong – Software Engineering: An Idea Whose Time Has Come and Gone?. Tom de Marco has always been one of my heroes – when I started working, my company (NIIT in India) had an arrangement with Yourdon Consulting for methodology, training and books. All of us at NIIT swore by “Structured Analysis and System Specification”.

epubs of the classics

Ever since I read Take Huckleberry Finn, for example, I have been motivated to create beautiful epubs of all my favorite classics. I plan to use the texts from Project Gutenberg, and add:

  1. Beautiful quotes – I find the ASCII quotes painful to read
  2. em- and en- dashes
  3. Better stylesheets

I have created my first epubs for distribution: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
